Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – 13-Week Local Contract

 

Location: Coffey County, KS
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift
Contract Length: 13 Weeks

 

Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable and autonomous Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a 13-week local contract. This position provides daily healthcare services within a county jail setting and includes floating within the clinics of Coffey County Hospital as needed. The ideal candidate is confident working independently, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast-paced, structured environment.

 

Responsibilities

• Provide daily medical care and routine nursing services to inmates in a county jail
• Perform assessments, administer medications, and respond to urgent medical needs
• Maintain accurate medical records and follow established protocols
• Collaborate with onsite medical staff, correctional officers, and hospital clinic teams
• Float to Coffey County Hospital clinics as needed
• Ensure compliance with facility, state, and federal guidelines

Qualifications

• Active Kansas LPN license (unencumbered)
• CPR/BLS certification required
• Experience in corrections, clinic, or acute care preferred
• Strong assessment and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently with sound clinical judgment

Contract Details

• 13-week local contract
• Monday–Friday schedule
• Opportunity for extension based on performance and facility need

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Corrections Nurse Practitioner. Work autonomously to provide daily (Monday - Friday) health care services to inmates within a county jail setting. Float within the clinics of Coffey County Hospital as needed. Review intake screenings for newly incarcerated individuals to identify urgent or on-going health needs. Provide routine and emergency nursing care for acute and chronic medical conditions, following established clinical protocols. Triage sick calls and evaluate patients requesting medical attention, prioritizing care based on urgency and clinical judgment. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the licensed provider, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to safety protocols. Coordinate prescription refills as ordered for incarcerated individuals. Assist providers during onsite medical exams and procedures, and coordinate follow up care when applicable. Document all encounters, assessments, treatments, and patient interactions accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Monitor patients with chronic health conditions ensuring regular follow-up and care planning as directed by the provider.
