Job Title: Senior Virtual Desktop Engineer

Position Summary
A large international firm is seeking a Senior Virtual Desktop Engineer to design, optimize, and guide the future direction of its virtual desktop infrastructure across both on-premises and cloud platforms. This role is instrumental in architecting modern end-user computing solutions, including the transition from Citrix to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable virtual desktop delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Virtual Desktop Architecture: Serve as a senior engineer overseeing the design and performance of virtual desktop environments, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Design & Manage Infrastructure: Architect and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance VDI solutions using AVD and associated technologies.
- AVD Migration Leadership: Guide and execute the transition from Citrix to Azure Virtual Desktop, ensuring minimal business disruption.
- Evaluate & Recommend Technologies: Research and recommend emerging technologies including FSLogix, Nerdio, and user profile management tools.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with infrastructure, application, network, and security teams to resolve complex technical issues and deliver integrated solutions.
- Tier 3 Support: Provide senior-level troubleshooting and escalation support for virtual desktop and endpoint environments.
- Automation & Optimization: Use PowerShell and other scripting tools to automate and optimize VDI operations and user profile management.
Required Technical Skills
- Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD): Deep expertise managing and supporting AVD in cloud or hybrid environments.
- User Profile & Application Control: Experience with UPM, FSLogix, Ivanti Workspace Control (Appsense), Ivanti Application Control, and Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC).
- Microsoft Stack Proficiency: Strong experience with Windows Server, Group Policy, Active Directory, and scripting/automation via PowerShell.
- Cloud & Virtualization Knowledge: Experience with Azure, AWS, VMware, and Microsoft Hyper-V in enterprise settings.
- Citrix (Nice to Have): Familiarity with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (XenApp/XenDesktop), Citrix ADC (NetScaler), Citrix Gateway, MCS, PVS, and Citrix Cloud.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience managing and architecting large-scale virtual desktop environments, including Citrix and AVD.
- Certifications: Microsoft certifications related to AVD preferred; Citrix certifications such as CCP-V or CCE-V are a plus.
