Position Summary The Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center is seeking a full-time Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA). Reporting to the Clinical Genetic Counselor and Sr. Manager, the GCA will support genetic research projects and clinical responsibilities. This role offers valuable experience for those interested in graduate programs in genetics or genetic counseling, or in research management. Prior genetics expertise is not required, as training and education will be provided. Responsibilities Support clinical research studies by reviewing participant and physician inquiries Prepare for research visits by reviewing medical records and family histories Coordinate appointments and communicate with participants and staff Process and ship specimens for genetic testing Assist in scheduling genetic counseling appointments Help manage the workflow of genetic testing alongside the team Perform chart reviews and maintain research programs Develop surveys, create databases, and organize medical records as needed Upload documents into electronic medical records Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Other Requirements Highly organized with attention to detail Familiarity with medical terminology and lab testing Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Excellent communication skills Ability to work independently and in teams Professional and flexible attitude Columbia University is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity.
